For students, it’s final exams, projects, activities, questions about whether they’ll pass their classes, and exhaustion, among other things. For employees, it’s project closures, deadlines, whether or not their vacation days get approved, and meeting the expectations of an extremely difficult year. Many want to close cycles and strive to be open to a new year about to begin. On the other hand, social media is inundated with advertisements about gifts, expectations, «fashionable» attire for the holidays, and other situations that could generate pressure for some, specifically in financial and emotional areas.

Design intentions by life areas

Health: How do I want to take care of myself this year? Establish 2 to 3 ways to achieve it, for example, drink more water, sleep better.

Relationships: What type of connections do I want to prioritize? Ask yourself what a healthy relationship is for you and seek it out.

Work/purpose: What do I need to have greater purpose? Anticipate real obstacles and make adjustments.

Emotional well-being: What will help me regulate myself better? Define small actions you can maintain, such as breathing exercises.

When talking to yourself to design these intentions, make an effort for them to be realistic and not perfectionistic. Use intentions as directions toward goals you want to reach. Focus on your principles and values. Being flexible and making adjustments when necessary will be crucial when you feel overwhelmed. For example, «I’m going to go to the gym 5 times a week» vs. «I want to move in ways that I enjoy and that contribute to my physical and emotional health.»

Finally, create a phrase that helps you maintain focus when you feel frustration or emotional fatigue. Repeat it and trust in your abilities to rise from adversity and continue achieving what you want to accomplish despite obstacles.

«In 2026, I want to respond to myself with more patience and ask for support when I need it.»

«In 2026, I intend to listen to my limits on time and respond to myself with respect, even if that means going slower.»

«I will choose to regulate myself before demanding from myself.»

«I will move forward with consistency, without punishing myself for pauses.»

December can be a very intense month.
